Hey guys. So we’re about a few weeks into the workterm now. Yay us! We got through first year university! And now just to worry about whether or not Electricity and Magnetism will kill us all.
First PDeng assignment is due on May 20th and it’s about Ethics in the workplace. Just head over to UW ACE to get the assignment and cringe when you realize it requires reading and writing stuff.
The PDeng exam on the first 4 chapters of “Introduction to Professional Engineering in Canada”, the book we had to get for Intro to SE back in 1A has two attempts.
First attempt needs to be done by June 16. Second attempt by July 30.
Please note that all assignments and tests are due by 11:45pm on the dates indicated.
Also, I want to make a new layout for this site. I’ve been saying this for a while, but yet it hasn’t happened yet. We shall see…
OH and just as a heads up, I also update the facebook group with this info. But in a much more condensed form.

Soooo there’s nothing really big to report about, just a ton of little things, so here goes.
#1 - For those who attended Joe’s VHDL tutorial, here is the link to his slideshow: click here.
#2 - This weeks seminar on Tuesday is about PDeng @ 12:30 - 1:20 in E2 1310 (Weef Lab)
#3 - Speaking about PDeng our first two assignments are due on March 27th. Go to ACE –> PDENG 15 for further details.
#4 - There will be no Algebra tutorial for the next two weeks. As there will also be no Algebra assignment next week.
#5 - Last day of classes is on Friday April 3rd. I’ll do a post following this with exam details.
#6 - ???
#7 - Profit!

I posted the midterms this week a while ago, but I thought I would re-post them now since you know, it’s this week.
MATH 119 - Monday, March 2nd @ 7:00 to 9:00pm, location: RCH 302 and RCH 211
CS 138 - Wednesday, March 4th @ 5:30 - 7:30pm, location: RCH 103, 301 (click here for your assigned seat)
MSCI 261 - Friday, March 6th @ 5:00 - 7:00pm, location: DC 1350
I’ve added this information to the Facebook group as well.
Also as we all know last Friday @ 1:00pm rankings opened. Make sure to rank the employers that have ranked you, otherwise jobmine will default the rank you give to 9 (which is not good). Rankings close @ 1:00pm on Monday, March 2nd.
Match results should be up Monday, March 2nd @ 4:00pm, three hours after rankings is done.
Enjoy studying! Remember: No Calculus Assignment, No Econ Quiz (as far as I can remember), but Algebra is still due this week!

There’s been a lot of confusion on this which is why Marina and I asked the prof in specific about the report and the due dates. This is what he’s now posted on ACE (copied and pasted).
Further information on lab demonstrations and reports:
Some of you asked for more information on expectations for labs. Here is some additional detail from Eric Praetzel. Please be sure that you’ve read what the lab manual has to say about these requirements; don’t just look at the submission form.
—————————————–
Lab Demonstrations or “Demos”
You will demonstrate each lab during the time slot you choose at lab sign up. Failure to sign up for a lab - by the first day of lab demos - results in a 10% penalty. You must be prepared to demonstrate at any time during the time slot and you must have filled out a copy of the Lab Submission Form.
At your demo, present your design (VHDL, simulation command file, simulation results) to a TA and make the design available on a laboratory station. The TA will ask questions about some aspects of your design, simulation and implementation, and the division of effort within the group. You will have to run simulations with your, and possibly our, simulation command files.
If one partner is not able to attend the demonstration then they must appear on another scheduled lab day and answer the TA’s questions.
Lab Reports
Final Report
The final report is due by 4:00 PM the next working day after your demo in the steel box labeled SE 141 outside E2-3341. Late reports loose 10% per day.
The final report includes the following elements:
* Lab Submission Form as graded by the TA. This is the FRONT PAGE of your report.
* Formal specification of the problem (state your assumptions and additions to what is stated in the lab manual)
* Circuit design information as asked for in the Submission Form
* Intermediate design stages such as k-maps and truth tables
* Final VHDL listing
* Printed simulation Command File(s) and waveform(s) testing the circuit sufficiently
——- Hope this helps out you guys that are confused. I know it helps me.

So to start off, now that most, if not all of SE has had a few interviews, all that’s really left to do is to wait for ranking. Now I don’t know about you guys, but from what I’ve talked about with others (and seen myself), it appears that the drop box ALWAYS disappears for all employers that have finished ranking. So just because it disappears, it doesn’t necessarily mean you weren’t ranked.
Otherwise, just a reminder about Lab 1 for SE 141. From what I can understand the parts for submission are due on the first day of demonstrations: February 23rd. So if anyone can confirm that would be great And make sure not to forget the written part as well as the code!
EDIT: The reports are due the next working day at 4:00pm after your demo. So if you go on Monday, your report is due on Tuesday @ 4:00pm.
Lastly, reading week starts next Monday which means we finally catch a break! There are no employer interviews so people can head home and relax for the week. Or if you’re like me, catch up in courses I haven’t been particularly paying attention to…
Anywho, have fun, and don’t forget about Lab 1!

So for those of you who have interviews (don’t worry those who don’t, you will soon!), make sure to sign up for a time. Also remember you are obliged to go to that interview. If you don’t you’ll get in trouble by the Co-op people.
Also midterms are coming up, here are the dates that I have collected so far:
MATH 135 - Monday, February 9th @ 7:30pm locations: A-K: DWE 1501, L-S: DWE 2527, T-Z: DWE 3519.
SE 141 - Wednesday, February 25th @ 7:00pm in RCH 301/302
MATH 119 - Monday, March 2nd @ 7:00 to 9:00pm location TBA
CS 138 - Wednesday, March 4th @ 5:30 - 7:30pm location TBA
MSCI 261 - Friday, March 6th @ 5:00 - 7:00pm location TBA
And don’t forget the midterm for your electives!

Just in case some of you didn’t realize, the second job posting for jobmine started today. It will end on Monday, January 26 @ 11:59pm so make sure to use up the rest of your applications!
Also make sure to keep checking jobmine daily for news on selections. If you’re selected then you need to set an interview time. If you were not selected then an application has returned to your list and you can now apply to another job.
Make sure not to refresh the application/interview pages too often! (Because we all know you will).
Good luck

Hey guys it’s Karol. Since it is now 1B I have decided to set up this new layout! This layout isn’t as blue as the last one and I actually know a thing or two about wordpress. So things should run a bit more smoother.
This term I’ll try to keep track of the major dates and events on here. To start off, the first job posting is open today. The job posting will close on Tuesday, January 20th at 11:59pm. So make sure to apply to some jobs!
Remember you have a maximum of 50 jobs for BOTH job postings, so apply wisely. The second job posting starts on Friday, January 23rd and ends on Monday, January 26th at 11:59pm.
Here is a link to the important dates if you need them: click here.
And don’t forget your resumes need to be in HTML format. If you don’t know how to do this, then in Word save your file as an ‘webpage filtered’, as explained on JobMine.
Good luck in finding jobs!
